Joan A. (Sweeney) McGrath, age 86, of Tewksbury passed away on Tuesday, April 26th. Born and raised in West Roxbury, she was the daughter of the late John and Priscilla (Robinson) Sweeney. Joan moved to Medford in 1970, and lived in Reading for two years before settling in Tewksbury in 2006. She was employed as an Administrator in the insurance industry. Joan loved doing needlepoint, and was known for her hugs and her world-famous chicken salad.
Joan was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. McGrath, and the devoted mother of Janine Hancock-McGrath and her wife Sarah of Tewksbury, and John McGrath and his wife Sharon of Wilmington. She was the loving grandmother of Sandy, Benny, Grace, Jack and Lindsey, and the dear sister of the late Jane Packard and her late husband Burt, and the late Russell Sweeney and his surviving wife Julie. Joan is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved dog Finnegan.
Funeral from Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Friday, May 6th at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 5th from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
