Port Charlotte, FL – Stanley Hiltz Sawyer, 84, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2022, at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born on October 21, 1937, in Porter, ME, to Robert and Grace (Stacy) Sawyer. He attended and graduated from Porter High School. He worked at GE in Limerick, ME. He went on to serve in the Air Force, stationed in Bangor, ME and Korea. He worked many years for Portland Glass Co. He also owned and operated Stan Sawyer and Sons Glass Company which later became Service Glass Company, co- owned and operated with Wayne Mills, for several years. Until his retirement, he worked 29 years for SAD 55 as Head Custodian and Maintenance Engineer. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, working in his shop making furniture and crafts for his family, cookouts, playing cards, and spending time in his “Man Cave”. He lived in Porter his whole life until he moved to Florida full-time in 2021.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Karen A (Kononen) and their four children, Rolf K Sawyer and his wife Denise of Wakefield, NH; Julie A Lajoie of Naples, ME; Terry L Sawyer and his wife Kari of Parsonsfield, ME; Lisa R Sawyer and her husband Jason of Waterboro, ME; foster daughter Joan Skillin and her husband Bob of Biddeford, ME; ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. Also, his two sisters, Karen Watson and Cheryl Eastman, both of Port Charlotte, FL.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert (Bruce) Sawyer of Glenwood, New Mexico and William (Bill) Sawyer of Porter, ME
A graveside service will be held June 11, 2022 at 10 AM at the Kezar Falls Burial Ground.
