Melvin “Eugene” Young, 65, of Tifton, GA passed away at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton on April 22, 2022, after a short illness. Visitation will be in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2022, one hour prior to the service at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals in Tifton and graveside to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. The Rev. Edsel Young will officiate.
Alan Conger, Shaun Rutherford and Anthony Smith will be among the pallbearers.
Eugene was born July 26, 1956, in Douglas, GA to the late Melvin and Willine Pridgen Young. He is also preceded in death by a son, James Willis “Will” Cox, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Beth Pope Young of Tifton; daughters, Hannah Young and Alicia Cox, both of Tifton; son, Richard Young of Broxton; brother, Donald Young; sister, Janet Young; nieces, Crystal Bostick of Wray, GA and Edith Evans of Arkansas; two grandchildren, Alyssa Davis (Andrew) of Broxton and Lawson Young of Douglas; and one great-granddaughter, Paisley Davis of Broxton.
Eugene loved his family and bulldog, Sophie. He loved watching sports, playing golf and played softball for years. He was an avid Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldog fan. He loved calling Hannah to discuss players and team stats which she is likely to carry on just like him. He loved to fish Lake Eufaula and knew all of the honey holes to catch the limit. He loved the Lord. He will be dearly missed.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to a charity of choice.
