Martha Louise Scott Gonzalez Winans
Martha Winans, 80, of Mystic, CT, died Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Groton Regency in Groton, CT, after an extended illness.
Martha was born August 4, 1941 in Boston, Massachusetts and was the oldest child of her parents, Priscilla Thorley Scott and Theodore Pitt Scott. She is predeceased by her parents, first husband Rodolfo Antonio Gonzalez and second husband Robert Foster Winans.
She graduated from Central High School in Bridgeport, CT in 1960 and worked in a number of administrative positions in banking and in child care. Later in life, prior to her illness, she enjoyed working as a caregiver to other seniors.
Martha had a variety of interests that included art, music, reading and cooking. She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially cats, and delighted in seeing and caring for her “grand-animals”. She also participated in many church activities earlier in her life.
Martha is survived by her son, Eric Anthony Gonzalez of Beacon Falls, CT; her daughter, Louise Middaugh (Michael) of Kingman, AZ; and her brother, David Russell Scott (Sandie) of Mystic, CT. Martha’s family is very grateful to the healthcare professionals at Groton Regency for the care shown to her during her tenure at that facility, as well as her good friends Carol Ryall and Greg Smith, who showed love and compassion throughout her adult life.
A celebration of life is planned at a later date.
