Obituary

CHICOPEE – Eugene L. Chartier, Sr., 84, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life at Mont Marie Health Care Center in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on February 26, 1938, a beloved son of the late Raoul E. and Bernadette (Masse) Chartier. He was raised and educated in Holyoke and had lived throughout Western Massachusetts before moving to Chicopee in 1998. He was employed as a Tractor Trailer Operator and had worked for Dorne Transportation and Oneida Motor Freight, both in Chicopee. He later worked for Pride Fuel Services and later worked at Cislak Paving Company in Chicopee. He was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. During his leisure time, he enjoyed working on cars and was known to be able to fix just about anything. He also was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Suzanne R. “Sue” (Gagnon) Chartier. They were married on September 23, 1989 at Saint Patrick Church in South Hadley and were blessed with over 32 years of happiness together. He also leaves his six children, Deborah Lussier, Mark and Debra Chartier, Patty Chartier Foley, Eugene Chartier, Jr. and Cheryll Keefe; his two step children, Kevin LaRocque and Karen Abramson; and his many grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two brothers, Rene and Robert Chartier; and his two sisters, Laurette Storczuk and Evelyn Kaeble. His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial will be private. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to his Mass. The funeral home parking lot is located in the rear. Please note that masks are required for his services.
