Obituary

Retired News Editor of The Pilot Newspaper for the Archdiocese of Boston, Joan A. (Lynch) Carney, a resident of Stoneham and formerly of Medford, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington. She was 89 years of age.

Joan was born in Boston on December 15, 1932, a daughter of the late James J. Lynch and Mary L. (Charbonnier) Lynch. She grew up in Medford where she was educated and graduated from Cheverus High School in Malden, Class of 1950.

Her entire working career was spent as an employee of the Archdiocese of Boston, primarily in publishing and communication agencies. She retired as News Editor of The Pilot, the official publication of the Archdiocese of Boston.

In 1998, St. Pope John Paul II named her recipient of the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifci Medal for her long and faithful service to the Church.

Joan is survived by her siblings John "Beansie" Charbonnier and his wife Marilyn, Patricia Gundy and her husband William, Thomas Charbonnier and his wife Leslie, Linda Kerrigan and her husband James, James Charbonnier and his wife Kathy, Maryann Ranahan and her husband Kevin, Joseph Charbonnier and his wife Kathy, the late James Lynch, William Lynch, Joseph Lynch, Francis "Mike" Lynch, Richard "Red" Charbonnier, Judy Lucas and Michael "Mike" Charbonnier. She is the sister-in-law of Eleanor Lynch . She is the dear aunt of Kathleen Trider and her husband Keith, Thomas Lynch and his wife Karen, Timothy Lynch, Kevin Lynch, Michael Lynch and the late Susan Cove and her surviving husband Peter and also her many other loving Charbonnier family nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Kathleen and Robert Driscoll of Winthrop for their love and friendship that never failed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joan's Funeral Mass on Thursday morning, April 28, 2022 at 11 A.M. in The Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St. Malden. (PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO CHURCH). Her burial is private. Her visiting hours will be held on Wednesday afternoon, April 27, 2022 from 2 P.M. to 5 P.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown.
