Obituary

CHICOPEE – Margaret R. “Peggy” (Bergdoll) Garvey, 80, of Chicopee and a former longtime resident of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. She passed into Eternal Life surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on May 24, 1941, a beloved daughter of the late Frederick J. and Margaret M. (Patterson) Bergdoll. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from the former Sacred Heart High School in Springfield and had moved to Chicopee in 2001. She was employed as a Receptionist for the Urology Group of Western New England in Springfield. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. During her leisure time, she enjoyed shopping, eating out and trying her luck at the casinos. Peggy truly enjoyed caring for her family and was so proud of her son, daughter in law and her two grandsons. She accomplished her lifelong goal of being a wonderful mother and grandmother. Peggy was an honest, no nonsense and straightforward woman with a great sense of humor. She was a very empathetic person who was the first to pick up the phone and call anyone who needed help or to listen to their problems. She was also the first to send a card or note to let someone know that she was thinking of them during good times or bad times. Peggy lived the life she imagined with no regrets. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and soul mate, John P. Garvey who was Called Home on April 21, 2020. They were married on August 22, 1964 at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 55 years of happiness together. She leaves her loving son and daughter in law, Sean M. Garvey and his wife, Sheila, of West Springfield; her two cherished grandsons, Daniel and Michael Garvey; her two dear sisters in law, Mary Bergdoll of Springfield and Catherine Pickul of Chicopee; her dear brother in law, Michael Garvey and his wife, Pat, of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends.
