Obituary



Robert G. “Bob” Moran, age 89 of Brockton, died at his home April 16, 2022 surrounded by love and laughter. He was the loving husband of A. Diane (Hannigan) Moran for 60 years. Bob was born and raised in Brockton, a son of the late Clement and Louise (Cloutier) Moran and remained a lifelong resident of the city.

A 1950 graduate of Brockton High School, Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force, earning the rank of Sergeant during the Korean War. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Curry College, and was President of the Class of 1961. Bob was a Brockton Police Officer from 1961 to 1964 and became a Probation Officer for Plymouth County Family Court in 1964, retiring as Chief Probation Officer in 1997.

Bob was active in the community, coaching baseball for Brockton South Little League. After winning multiple championships, he served as Vice President of the league. He served on the Brockton Planning Board for a number of years.

During his retirement, he became an altar server for funerals at St. Margaret’s Church. He and Diane travelled extensively, visiting much of the United States, and twenty countries in Europe and Central America. Bob enjoyed researching genealogy, but most importantly, Bob treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Bob was the father of Robert G. Moran, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Douglas, MA; Joseph C. Moran and his wife Maureen of Leesburg, VA; James P. Moran of Taunton; John A. Moran and his wife Pamala of Brockton; Richard A. Moran of Rockland. Bob was pre-deceased by his infant son Michael, his sister Patricia, and his brother Paul. He also leaves 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and was the brother of Doris Blanchard of Brockton, Elaine Morse of Bridgewater and the late Paul and Patricia Moran.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday April 21st at Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral on Friday, April 22nd, at 9:30am for a funeral mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 433 West St Brockton at 10:30am. Burial with military honors will take place on Tuesday April 26th at 12:30 at Bourne National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be sent to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 433 West St Brockton, or Trinity Catholic Academy, 31 Eire Ave Brockton.
