SWANSEA… Joseph W. Bucko, 102, of Swansea passed away April 15, 2022 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River.
He was the loving husband of the late Mariette “Penny” A. (Dupere) Bucko to whom he was married for 64 years.
Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Walter and Josephine (Smyka) Bucko. He was raised in Fall River but had spent summers in Ocean Grove since the 1950’s until moving permanently to Swansea in 1983.
Mr. Bucko was veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. He had made 11 round trips across the Atlantic.
He had owned Bucko Brothers’ Fishing supply for many years and also worked for US Luggage for over 30 years and Bucko’s Bait & Tackle, owned by his son, as well. He was a member of the Polish American War Veteran’s, St. Stanislaus Senior Citizens, the Kosciuszko Club, the Polish Cadets and sat on the board of directors for the Polish Home.
Joseph loved socializing, fishing, joking and having parties with his family. This past March, he was the recipient of over 6500 birthday cards. He thoroughly enjoyed opening and reading each and every one.
Survivors include his daughters: JoAnn Frizado (husband Richard) of Fall River and Mary (Marysia) Mello (husband Louis) of Iowa; his son, Michael J. Bucko (wife Pamela) of Tiverton; his son-in-law, Gary Pomprowicz; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Donna Pomprowicz and brother of the late Mary Pastuck, Stanley Bucko and John Bucko.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 8:30 AM from the Boyko Memorial Funeral Home, 709 Broadway Fall River, MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Stanislaus Church, Rockland St. Fall River. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5 PM to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph’s name can be made to Veterans Association of Bristol County, 755 Pine Street Fall River, MA 02720.
