Obituary

Clayton G. Peckham, age 83, peacefully left this life on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at his home in Fall River, MA. His loving family was by his side, whom he loved with all his heart and regarded as his greatest accomplishment. He was the husband of his sweetheart Beverly (Pacheco) Peckham, to whom he was married for 59 years.

He was the son of the late Stanton Earl Peckham and Edith E. (Smith) Jerome. Clayton resided in Tiverton, RI and later moved to a home with Beverly to raise their family. An avid Red Sox fan, he learned to love sailing with his son Steven. As a master craftsman, he appreciated the attention to detail in refurbishing furniture and woodworking. Later in life, he found a love of painting on canvas, creating many pieces depicting nature, and architecture.

He worked as a furniture refinisher at Harvey Probber, and then at Cabot House Fine Furnishings, both in Fall River, MA. He later worked for many years at The Newport Preservation Society as a maintenance worker.

In addition to following the Red Sox, he enjoyed reading, and going for walks on the boardwalk at Battleship Cove. But his greatest treasure was his family, and his beloved wife Beverly.

He is survived by his son, Steven and wife Carol (Scott) of Portsmouth, daughter Nancy Cowen and husband Steven of Westport, and daughter Lynne Towers and husband Scott of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, Aaron Russell Towers and his partner Jenni Mickool, Rachel Isabelle (Cowen) Bertocchi and husband Frank, Jacob Paul Towers, and Isaac Steven Cowen.

He was the brother of Stanton Peckham and wife Marge of Tiverton, and Douglas Peckham and wife Diane of Florida. He is predeceased by brother Prescott Peckham and wife Faith of Tiverton.

His memory will be honored in a Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 30th at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Tiverton, RI.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Southcoast Visiting Nurse Association, 200 Mill Road, Fairhaven, MA 02719.
