Obituary

Westbrook – Leslie Ann Bowman, age 84, passed away on April 12, 2022, at her home after fearlessly fighting heart issues.
She was born in Gardiner, Maine on April 30, 1937, a daughter of the late Mildred A. (Landry) and Dominic C. Courtemanche.
Leslie, known as “Nanny” to family members, enjoyed crocheting, crafting, camping, bowling, reading, card and board games, and joining many community events, trips and activities, including Westbrook-Gorham TRIAD. She had a positive outlook on life, which kept her youthful for many years.
Leslie and her husband David moved to Gorham in the early 70’s and made a loving home for their five children. A home with memories to be treasured for many years to come, by family and friends alike.
She was well-known for crocheting Christmas stockings for her family, sweater outfits for the new babies in the family, and her beautiful Christmas displays. She had a true passion for decorating her home at Christmas. She loved when her family got together for special occasions and made delicious meals/treats for everyone.
Throughout her life, she welcomed many into her home, stray pets, friends of her children, and family members or friends in need of a place to stay. She was a strong woman and when she had her mind made up, there was no changing it. In her later years, she would often refer to herself as a “tough old bird”.
Leslie was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, David E. Bowman Sr., who passed away in 2011, and her daughter, Dawn L. (Bowman) Rivard, who passed away in 2010.
Leslie is survived by her sisters, Gail M. Blomquist and her husband, Vic, of Dresden, ME., and Germaine Boothby and her husband, Lee, of Davenport, FL.
