Obituary

CHICOPEE – Arthur E. “Art” Pothier, 91, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, April 13, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life from his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born at home on South Street in Chicopee on May 26, 1930, a beloved son of the late Ernest A. and Rhea H. (Lapointe) Pothier. He was raised and educated in Chicopee and was a lifelong resident of the city. He was employed for 33 years as a Mail Flow Controller for the US Postal Service Bulk Mail Center in Indian Orchard and retired on January 3, 1986. He was previously employed for the New York Central Railroad. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Elder Council 69 in Chicopee and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. During his leisure time, Art enjoyed camping, carpentry, traveling and most especially puttering around his home. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and soul mate, Yvette A. (Leduc) Pothier who was Called Home on February 9, 2006. They were married on June 10, 1950 at Saint George Church in Chicopee Falls and were blessed with over 55 years of happiness together. He leaves his four loving children, Gary A. Pothier and his wife, Linda, of Millbury, MA, Lori A. Laramee and her husband, Randy, of Chicopee, Diane M. Viets and her husband, David, of Chicopee and Sheryl A. Malone and her husband, Patrick, of Florence; his 11 cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Krassopoulos and her husband, Kevin, Gregory Pothier and his wife, Katie, Melanie Demski and her husband, Mark, Krystal Laramee and her partner Sandy, and Kimberly Laramee, Liz Quinby and her husband, Matt, Heather Adams and her fiancé, Jeff, and Daniel Viets and his wife, Chelsea, and Eric Malone, April Esposito and Cody Malone; his 18 cherished great grandchildren; his dear brother, George W. Pothier and his wife, Gloria, of Ogdensburg, NY; his dear sister, Doris A. Methe of Westfield; his dear sister in law, Lorraine E. Pothier of Chicopee; and his companion of 15 years, Lorraine Mercure of Chicopee. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his beloved son, Ronald A. Pothier who was Called Home on December 11, 1956; his dear brother, Leo Pothier; and his two dear sisters, Yvette Croteau and her husband, Raymond, and Theresa Chartier and her husband, Wilfred. His Funeral will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 21, 2022 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
