Obituary

Salvatore "Sarvy" Colombo (Ret. BPD), age 87, of Bridgewater, died unexpectedly on April 10, 2022. Sarvy was the husband for 62 years of the late Joan (Hallisey) Colombo. Born and raised in Brockton, he was a son of the late Alessandro and Lucy (Lupo) Colombo.

An avid and accomplished athlete, he played baseball and football for Brockton High School and graduated in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army and was also recruited to play baseball for its team. After being discharged, he returned to his hometown and became a meat cutter for the Brockton Public Market (BPM) before joining the Brockton Police Department. During his 25 years on the force as a Patrol Officer, and while raising a family with his beloved wife, he still managed to earn his Associate's Degree from Massasoit Community College.

Sarvy was known for being a hardworking family man. He was often seen playing catch with his children in their yard on his days off. Among some of his other talents, he was a phenomenal speller and was constantly viewed by his children as a walking dictionary. He adored watching any and all sports as well as reading, traveling and playing handball and tennis. Not a man to sit idle during retirement, he volunteered delivering food to the elderly for "Meals On Wheels" and also assisted those in need at the Bridgewater Food Pantry.

He is survived by his daughter Christine Flanagan and her husband W. Joseph Flanagan of Walpole, his son Mark Colombo and his wife Denise of Summerville SC, his son David Colombo and his wife Karin of East Bridgewater and his son Stephen Colombo and his husband David Phalstaf of West Roxbury. He was the cherished brother of Delia Lessard (wife of the late Raymond Lessard) of Hanson. He was the grandfather of Mike and Nick Flanagan and Paige and Leighton Colombo. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Carmelina "Millie" Briguglio (wife of the late Carmen Briguglio), his brother Louis Colombo (husband of the late Helen Colombo), his nephews Frank and Alec Briguglio and niece Helen (Lessard) Dunlavey.

Visiting Hours will be held on Monday, April 18, at Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street, (Rte 123) Brockton from 2:00-5:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Service at 5pm.
