Spencer – Roger W. Smith, 73, of Spencer died on Tuesday May 2, in Umass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 21 years Marjorie (Pianowski) Smith of Spencer; four sons Roger W. Smith Jr. of Dover, NH, David R. Smith, Stephan Smith and David Zuidema all of Worcester; four daughters Linda J. Serwecki of Harvest, AL, Jo-Ann M. Noponen of Worcester, Deborah A. Nugent of Woodbridge, VA and Robin E. Hicks of Webster; three brothers Everett Smith of Worcester, Stanley Smith and Donald Smith both of Webster; two sisters Lillian LaBlanc of CA and Barbara Ginlate of Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Mr. Smith is predeceased by his first wife Edith F. (Whitenett) Smith.
He was born in Worcester son of Everett and Carrie (Jason) Smith and is a veteran of the United States Army.
Mr. Smith worked for the Worcester Public Schools Head Start Program as a driver retiring in 1988. He was active in the Mohegan Council Boy Scouts of America, enjoyed doing carpentry and spending time with his family.
The funeral will be held on Friday May 5 at 10 AM in the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday May 4, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association 20 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
