Obituary

Shirley Diane Wiggins of Weymouth passed away
unexpectedly on April 6, 2022, at the age of 73. Shirley
was raised and educated in Weymouth and graduated
from Weymouth High School with the class of 1966.
Shirley began her career at John Hancock Financial,
where she worked until her retirement as an account
administrator in the International Group Program. Upon
retirement, she devoted her time to care for her elderly
parents. She was a blessing to them.

Avid Soduko player, Cribbage, Backgammon,Yahtzee and
various game boards, she was a card shark. She loved to
cook and had a fabulous recipe for spaghetti sauce. Her
homemade baked cookies were a favorite at gatherings
and we were always given samples to bring home.
An amazing woman, Shirley loved to shop and would
always be searching for the next unique great find to give
to family and friends. She was so exceptional at
wrapping the gifts that the present was like a gift itself.
She never missed anyone’s birthday or milestone and was
at all family gatherings.

She had a great laugh and used it often. Motherly and
caring, she formed special relationships with each of her
nieces and nephews. Above all else Shirley was a woman
who would do anything to make sure her family was
happy and loved. Her close circle of neighbors and friends
were like a second family.

Growing up Shirley enjoyed trips up to Vermont and New
Hampshire with her family. Those memories instilled a
family-oriented background that stuck with her
throughout her life. Her later travels included a road trip
with her godson to South Carolina. They counted every
Cracker Barrel along the way. Other destinations over
the years were Florida and Las Vegas.

Never leaving the house unless impeccably dressed and
with exquisite taste, she looked like a celebrity.
She had a few favorite local restaurants that she liked to
frequent at lunchtime and was well-known to everyone
as “Shirl the Pearl.” One of the things that she looked
forward to was regularly getting together for lunch with
her former co-workers from John Hancock.

Shirley was the cherished daughter of the late Delmer
and Dorothy Wiggins. She was predeceased by her twin
sister Dorothy Chella and was the loving sister of William
R. Wiggins of Cambridge, Edward P. Wiggins of Quincy,
Linda E. Gavin of Hull, and Debra E. Scollins and her
husband Dennis of Marshfield, and sister-in-law of Roger
Chella of Weymouth. Shirley was also the devoted aunt to
Katelyn Gavin, Robert Chella and his wife Megan, Michel
Claudio and her husband Anthony, Dennis Scollins Jr.,
Robert Scollins, Kathleen Scollins, Eileen Scollins, and
Michael Scollins. She was also the great aunt to Michael
Claudio and Sophia Claudio.
