Obituary

Mary Lamphere Gley, 90, formerly of Mystic, passed away May 1st after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mary was born on September 20, 1915 to Roberta Wilbur Lamphere and Charles E. Lamphere. She was also the stepdaughter of the late Dorothy B. Lamphere and the granddaughter of the late Capt. Robert Palmer Wilbur. She was the wife of the late Maurice Gley.

Mary spent most of her early life in Mystic where she attended local schools and served in the WAVES during World War II.

Mary was employed at the former Soneco Products of Mystic. She later lived in New Hampshire for several years where she worked for the republican party, before spending her later years in Florida.

While a resident of Mystic, she was a member of Union Baptist Church and the Mystic Seaport.

Mary was the wife of the late Maurice Gley. She is survived by her siblings, Dorothy L. MacPherson of Mystic and Charles B. Lamphere of Showhegan, ME, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Helen Bell and Phehe Palazzi.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Tuesday at 11am with the Rev. Dr. G. Kenneth Carpenter of Union Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Union Baptist Church, 119 High Street, Mystic CT 06355.
