James E. Swift, (Ret BFD) age 81, of East Bridgewater, formerly of N. Easton, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Janet (Florio) Swift. Born and raised in Brockton, Jim was the son of the late John and Grace (O’Connell) Swift. He was a graduate of Brockton High School and a college graduate with a degree in Fire Science.
During the Korean conflict Jim served with the US Army in Munich, Germany.
A Brockton firefighter, Jim was Secretary-Treasurer of the Firefighters Union Association. He retired after 27 years of service. Jim and his wife Janet owned and operated J&S Automobile Service Center in North Easton. He was an auto enthusiast whose pride and joy was working on engines and refurbishing his classic cars to enter in various car shows. Jim was also a member of the Sons of Italy.
Jim loved going to flea markets and yard sales, as well as meeting his friends on Cape Cod to bicycle and enjoy the day together. He enjoyed spending summers with the family at the Cape and in Maine and wintering in Florida. Being a country/ western music enthusiast, there was not a concert that he didn’t attend.
In addition to his wife Janet, Jim leaves his daughters Cherie A. McPheeters and her husband Lance of Cumberland, RI, Cathy Spadea and her husband John of N. Easton, Sandra M. Connolly and her husband James of Brockton and his grandson Michael Spadea of Easton as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Barbara Cotone of Holbrook and Patricia Tamulevich of Brockton.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Jim’s Life Celebration to begin with visiting hours on Thursday, April 7, from 4-7pm at Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street, Brockton. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 11:30am, followed by burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at 1:30pm.
