Frederick R. Langtange, 80, of Salem, NH died suddenly on Monday at Caritas Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, MA.
He was born in Lisbon, NH and grew up and was educated in Carmell, ME. He graduated from Carmell High School in 1943and attended MIT. Fred served in the US Army in the 253rd Engineer Combat Battalion and was in the Normandy Invasion. He was stationed in France and Germany. He attended Heavy Equipment School for his license. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Marksman Medal, Army of Occupation Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon.
Fred worked for Caritas Holy Family as a Security Guard for 21 years. He previously worked for Market Basket Produce Manager for 15 years, was Deputy Chief of the Haverhill Police Dept., had his own security company, Central Security and had worked as a technician for Avco.
Fred was a life member and chaplain of VFW Post #8546 in Salem, NH. He was also chaplain of Am Vets and the Veterans Council in Salem. He was a member of Crime Line of Southern, NH.
He loved car racing, Riverside Park in Agawam, MA, dancing and taking trips with his wife.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. Calling hours will be Thursday from 5-8 PM.
