Obituary

SHREWSBURY - Mr. Francis A. Porcaro, known to many as “Satch” died Friday April 1, 2022, at the age of 84. He leaves behind his daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Porcaro, his grandson, Brett Neuman, his sister, Rosina Porcaro, his former wife, Dorothy (Healy) Porcaro; several nieces, nephews, many great nieces and nephews, and one great great niece.
Francis was born in Worcester on February 12, 1936, to the late Joseph and Angelina (Sena) Porcaro. He lived in Worcester for most of his life. Over the last ten years he resided in Shrewsbury.
From a young age he loved sports. Franny enjoyed football and most recently college basketball. He was a die-hard New York Yankees fan (like most of the Porcaro clan).
Franny attended Worcester Public Schools. He was a graduate of Commerce High School where he played baseball and was on the track team. Being a lefty, he was one of Commerce High’s star pitchers.
Franny continued his education at Becker Jr. College and Clark University obtaining a degree in Business Administration. After working for a period in the business world he decided on a career change. Franny then went to Worcester State College and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1974 and after his master’s degree in special education. This was truly his calling. Many happy memories were here.
Franny began and ended his teaching career at North High School. While at North he coached junior varsity basketball, indoor track, girls’ softball and was an assistant to the football coach.
Franny spent twenty-five happy years at North High School helping his students achieve their goals and taking part in their lives. His relationships with both students and staff of North High School provided many lasting memories.
Francis belonged to Bernardi Square Social Club (the old days) and Brown Square social club today. In 1987 he was honored to receive the Sons of Italy Coaches Achievement Award.
Franny was pre-deceased by his parents and brothers, Joseph R. Porcaro and Dennis Porcaro.
