Obituary

Joan P. “Joannie” (Hallisey) Colombo, age 84, of Bridgewater, died unexpectedly on March 29, 2022. Joan was the wife for 62 years of Salvatore Colombo of Bridgewater. Born and raised in Brockton, she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Catherine (O’Reilly) Hallisey.

A 1955 graduate of Brockton High School, she went on to graduate from the Brockton Hospital School of Nursing in 1958. Joan began her 35 year career as a Registered Nurse at the Floating Hospital for Children in Boston. She continued serving as a pediatric nurse at the Good Samaritan Medical Center (Cardinal Cushing) in Brockton and retired as an Evening Nurse Supervisor.

Joan will be remembered as a kind and caring woman to all she met. She enjoyed traveling, reading, birdwatching and cooking. She will also be known for her love of listening to and telling of a great story to her family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by her daughter Christine Flanagan and her husband W. Joseph Flanagan of Walpole, her son Mark Colombo and his wife Denise of Summervile SC, her son David Colombo and his wife Karin of East Bridgewater and her son Stephen Colombo and his husband David Phalstaf of West Roxbury. Joan was also the cherished sister of Mary Carroll (wife of the late James Carroll) of Killingworth, CT. She was predeceased by her sister Ann Butler (wife of the late Edward Butler) of Brockton. She was the grandmother of Mike and Nick Flanagan and Paige and Leighton Colombo. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Wednesday, April 6, at St. Basil Chapel, 122 Park Avenue, Bridgewater on the Campus of Bridgewater State University. Visitation will be from 8:30-9:45 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 10am. Parking on the street is available.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s name to the Brockton VA Medical Center.
