WAYLAND: Robert L. Mills, formerly of Watertown, passed away on March 31, 2022 - 20 days shy of his 96th birthday.
He was the beloved husband of Lillian (Bailey) Mills and loving father of Pamela A. Walsh and her husband Ernest of Forestdale; Richard A. Mills and his wife Diane of Franklin and Kimberlee I Rizzitano and her husband James of Southborough. He also leaves 6 grandsons, 1 granddaughter and 4 great-grandsons.
Robert was born on April 20, 1926 in Watertown. He was the son of Louis R. and Martha P. Mills from Newfoundland, Canada. He fought in World War II as a Private First Class with the 474th Infantry Regiment. When Robert returned from the war, he met his wife Lillian. Together they built their house in Wayland and lived there for over 70 years.
Robert was a Master Carpenter for his entire adult life. He was a Construction Supervisor and member of the Carpenter’s Local #40. Even in retirement, he continued his love of woodworking by building many fine pieces of furniture and remodeling his own home along with those of his family and friends. Robert was also a call man for the Wayland Fire Department. Whenever he was home, if he heard the tapper go off, he would rush out the door to help.
There will be a private graveside service in the late Spring.
