Obituary

SOUTH PORTLAND- Robert ‘Bob’ Burnham, Age 89, passed away on March 26, 2022, at Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine.

He was born in Stamford, Connecticut on October 23, 1932. A son of the late Robert Francis Burnham and Marian Elizabeth (Fulton) Burnham.

Bob graduated from Mount Hermon School for boys and then the University of Connecticut with a BS in Agriculture. He spent two years in the army driving supply trucks in Germany. Upon his return, he worked several years in the dairy breeding industry. In 1965 Bob joined the Holstein Friesian Association of America as one of their first computer programmers building the breed registry to enhance dairy production.

Bob was active in his communities. He was a 51-year member of the Hinsdale NH Lions Club. He supported soccer tournaments and international and local causes through the New Hampshire State Lions club, cooked countless suppers at the Brattleboro VT Elks club, and was a Master Mason as a member of the Jerusalem Lodge Number 104 in Keene NH and the Brattleboro Vermont and Sun City Florida Shrine clubs. Bob enjoyed boating. He kept a wooden boat, “Summerside” moored on the Connecticut River, and volunteered at the Thousand Island Boat Parade and other events sponsored by the Antique Boat Museum.

After retiring, Bob became a full-time RVer and traveled throughout the US and Canada for almost 25 years, attending many RV club rallies. He was the webmaster for the GraniteStaters NH FMCA club and a member of the FMCA Singles International club.

Bob is predeceased by his long-term lady-friend Dorothy “Dot” Bickford (2003) and a brother Richard Francis Burnham (2021.) Bob is survived by his two daughters Laurel Beth Cashman and her husband Mitchell Cashman, and Susan Burnham and her husband Mark Madore of Standish, Maine. Bob is also survived by his four grandchildren, Ross and Jordan Torelli, Anna and Kenny Cashman, and four nephews.
