Charles Howard Pease Jr. died May 1st, 2006 at his home at Crossroads Place in Waterford.
He was born Nov. 8, 1919, in Providence, R.I., son of Charles and Anna Regina McKenna Pease. He was a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, N.H., Brown University, where he was a varsity swimmer, qualifying for the Olympics, and he received a master's degree in business administration from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated at the top of his class.
Mr. Pease was a Navy veteran of World War II, retiring as a Lt. Cmdr. Having served on a destroyer and as a Command Pilot on Navy blimps, and he was selected for a special training at the U.S. Naval War College, Newport, R.I.
His business career included positions as vice president of marketing at Thermos Div. King Seeley Thermos, Norwich, executive vice-president of Schick Electric, Lancaster, Pa., and president of Mafro Products, New London. Upon his retirement from Mafro, he gave up his long standing seat on the board of directors of the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut and became it's full time executive director, a position he held until his final retirement in November of 1990. He was a volunteer at Mystic Seaport where he was recognized as Volunteer of the Year in 2002.
He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Rita Mary Cregan Pease; and three grandchildren, David Christopher, Casey Howard, and Alison Casey.
He is survived by his five children, Richard Michael, David Russell, Charles Howard III, Kathleen P. Ryan, and Mary Carroll Hodnett; 13 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer CHurch, Groton Long Point Road, Groton on Thursday at 10:30am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
