Obituary

WEBSTER – Edith E. Hucksam, 96 formerly of Webster, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022.

Born in Boston, she was the eldest daughter of the late Henry and Marion (Stokinger) Hucksam. She was predeceased by her 2 beloved sisters, Barbara Cobb and Lois Hucksam with whom she resided until their deaths.

Edith grew up in Webster where she lived most of her life and graduated from Bartlett High School in 1943. She also attended the Worcester School of Business Science.

She worked as a secretary and comptometer at the American Woolen Company, at Packard Mills and at Anglo Fabrics from which she retired in 1988.

Edith was a lifelong communicant of Saint Louis Church and she, along with her sisters, helped run the bingo at St. Andrew Bobola Church in Dudley for many years.

Edith was a huge Red Sox fan although she had never been to Fenway Park to see a game. She was thrilled to see the Red Sox win the World Series multiple times and she faithfully watched all of the televised games. She enjoyed knitting hats, mittens and doll clothes and embroidering tablecloths and handkerchiefs and, after she retired, would often sell these wares at craft fairs.

Edith traveled extensively throughout the United States during her lifetime, and especially liked trips with her sisters to play bingo at Foxwoods and Turning Stone. She loved family gatherings at Webster Lake and eating out at restaurants in the Webster and Dudley areas. She and her sisters were strong supporters of the Webster-Dudley Veterans Association and they were all made honorary members of the veteran council.

She is survived by her loving godson Paul J. Schleicher, Sr. and his wife Linda with whom she resided since January 2018 and by their children Amanda and Paul J. Schleicher, Jr. She also leaves her cousins Gladys Stokinger of Portland, ME and Janice Stokinger of Mattapoisett, MA.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday, March 29, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 AM Tuesday morning in the funeral home, prior to the Mass. Donations in her name may be made to the Webster-Dudley American Legion Post #184, 9 Houghton Street, Webster, MA 01570.
