Obituary


Joan Vivian DeSimone, of Delray Beach, Florida, formerly of Medford, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at the Boca Raton Regional Hospital in Florida. She was 88. Joan was the beloved wife of the late Eugene A. "Gino" DeSimone for nearly fifty years prior to his passing. Born in Cambridge she was the daughter of the late Alessandro and Mary (Dibiase) Petricone.

Joan was raised and educated in Somerville. She worked for many years early in her life in fashion retail and later as a successful realtor. Joan loved golfing, playing cards with family and friends, taking trips to the casino to try her luck, being social and over the years enjoyed traveling. However, her greatest joy was her family. She loved cooking and baking for her family and was always her happiest when she was surrounded by those she loved most.

Joan's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to her many friends in Florida that were always there to help Joan with any simple needs such as grocery shopping or rides to appointments during the past few years of the pandemic.

Joan is survived by her children, James A. DeSimone and daughter-in-law Sharon DeSimone, Sandy Campbell and her husband Robert W. Campbell Jr., Gino DeSimone and his wife Robinsue, Toni DeSimone and her loving companion John Morgante. She was the loving grandmother of Robert W. Campbell III, Kristin Gravallese and her husband Jon, Alexander DeSimone, Amanda DeSimone and her fiancé Max Souter, and Cecilia DeSimone. Loving great grandmother of Will and Colin Campbell, Jordan and Logan Gravallese. Sister of the late Mary Palazzolo, Beatrice "Bebe" Campo, and Alexander "Bobo" Rocco. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to gather for visiting hours at the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Friday, March 25th, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St.., Medford, at 11:30 a.m. Services will conclude with burial at St. Patrick Cemetery, Stoneham. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in honor of Joan's late husband Gino, to the ALS-MA Chapter, 685 Canton St., suite 103, Norwood, MA 02062.
