Obituary

LEICESTER: A. Gail (Aselton) McKay, 86, of Grove Street, died Tuesday, March 15 in her home.
She leaves her husband, Joseph G. McKay, and her children; Kelly A. Sampson and her husband Rusty of Princeton, Patrick J. McKay and his wife Madeleine of Leicester and Timothy J. McKay and his wife Kristy of Leicester, three sisters; Judy Delaney of Cherry Valley, Candace Aselton of Mashpee and Sherry Gedman and her husband Rich of Framingham, six grandchildren; Christopher, Michael, Ryan, Connor, Katelyn & Tyler, a sister-in-law Mary Luoma of Springfield, VA, a sister-in-law Patricia Aselton of Falmouth, MA, a daughter-in-law Phyllis Smith of Kennesaw, GA, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her #1 son Michael J. McKay and a brother, Donald Aselton.
Gail was born on March 11, 1936, in Worcester, MA to Melvin and Doris (McBride) Aselton. She grew up in Worcester and graduated from St. Peter's High School in Worcester. She married her husband Joseph on January 13th, 1961, and moved to Leicester, MA to start their life together and raise a family.
Gail was a clerk at State Mutual and a substitute teacher for the Leicester School District for many years before retiring. She was a former member and first lady/ chair of Leicester Parks and Recreation, where she ran the Leicester girl's softball and basketball programs for many years. She was a former member of the Leicester Mothers Club. She enjoyed summer vacations with the family at Cape Cod, Salisbury Beach, Hampton Beach, and Narragansett beach. She also enjoyed her trips to Aruba and her getaways to Eastover for Octoberfest. She loved her Saturday night dinners at Barbers Crossing. She enjoyed sports and became a softball, basketball, and volleyball official.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 26 at 10:00 AM in St. Pius X Church, 1153 Main Street, Leicester. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. The family will receive those in attendance prior to the Mass from 9:00-10:00 AM in the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, C/O Donor Services, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202. MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main Street is directing funeral arrangements.
