Obituary

MANCHAUG - Gail A. (Dodds) Bernier, 64, was called home to reunite with her son and parents on March 16, 2022. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family after a long illness.

Gail is survived by her husband of 45 years Richard L. Bernier; a sister, Dorothy Radcliff- Bates and her husband Bryan; of Old Orchard Beach, ME; her two daughters, Kimberly Bernier of Manchaug and Mindy Haynes-Bernier of Webster; her daughter-in-law, Holly Bernier; 5 grandchildren, the lights of her life, Freddy Sekyere, Abigail Haynes, Violet Bernier, Alexander Haynes and Samantha Haynes, her adopted New Zealand daughter Jayne Webster; her fur baby Cleo; In addition to many nieces, nephews and friends. Gail was predeceased by her son Thomas S. Bernier who died on February 17, 2012 and by her brother Thomas Dodds Sr.

She was born in Worcester on October 4, 1957 a daughter of Donald and Carol (Smith) Dodds. Gail grew up in Shrewsbury. She was a 1976 graduate of Shrewsbury High School

Mrs. Bernier first worked at the local Spa diner, where she met her husband of almost 46 years, “Leo” Richard Bernier. they went on to have their 3 children. Gail held many jobs throughout her career, notably her time as a lunch lady at Northbridge Jr/Sr High School while her children were young. She then moved onto work for Alternatives Unlimited in Whitinsville for many years and retired from her “favorite job” at Whole foods Market in Bellingham, where she worked as a cook in prepared foods. She was affectionately known as “Miss Gail”. She will be missed and remembered fondly for the love she had for her family, especially her grandchildren, her epic summer cookouts, her beautiful singing voice, and her laugh and smile that lit up a room.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Michael Constantine and his team at Dana Farber in Milford for the exceptional care Mrs. Bernier recieved throughout her long journey.

The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requested donations to be made in Gails name to The Sutton Food Pantry, 19 Hough Road Sutton, MA 01590. Arrangements are under the direction of Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster.
