
William L. Powers, 85, of Franklin, died peacefully on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at the Blaire House of Milford. He was the beloved husband of Barbara J. (Wood) Powers who died in 2009.
Born in Boston on March 18, 1936, he was the son of the late James and Marguerite (Gotti) Powers.
Bill grew up in Mattapan and resided in Hyde Park for several years until moving to Franklin in 1966.
He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Boston College and a Master’s Degree from Boston University.
Before his retirement, Bill worked as the Franklin Tax Assessor for many years and was previously a history teacher at the former Cardinal Cushing College.
Bill was a longtime member of the Franklin Rotary. He loved history, enjoyed gardening and after retirement enjoyed traveling abroad with his wife Barbara.
He is survived by three sons, Brian Powers and his wife Kathy of Taunton, Charles Powers and his wife Melissa Gropman of Richmond, VA and Richard Powers and his wife Dorrey of Holliston.
He was the father of the late David Powers and brother of the late James, Robert, and Edward Powers.
Bill is also survived by his daughter-in-law Nancy Powers of Florida and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour on Monday, March 21 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) followed by a funeral Mass in the Chapel downstairs at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at 11 a.m.
