Obituary

Maria (Portagioia) Bellino, age 85, of Wilmington, passed away on March 12, 2022. She was the beloved wife for 64 years of Agrippino Bellino.
Born in Mineo, Sicily, Italy, Maria was the daughter of the late Francesco and Carmela (Lalicata) Portagioia. She came to the United States in 1954 at the age of 17 and got her high school diploma at Somerville High School. She worked as a seamstress.
A homemaker, Maria loved taking care of her family. She enjoyed raising her two children.
After 25 years she returned to her hometown in Sicily with her husband and children. She enjoyed spending time with her three siblings for the next 20 years. She and her family returned to Boston in 1999 and resided in Wilmington, Ma with her son, where she enjoyed raising her grandson. One of her greatest joys in her life was to be a grandmother.
During her retirement years she enjoyed going on cruises all around the world. She also enjoyed visiting her siblings yearly on extended visits. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and she was a very prayerful and spiritual woman who enjoyed going to church. She was a survivor of Alzheimer’s Disease for 8 years.
In addition to her husband, Maria is lovingly survived by her children: Joseph D. Bellino and Frank R. Bellino, both of Wilmington. She was the devoted grandmother of Anthony Bellino and Katie York of Wilmington, the dear sister of the late Pasqua Portagioia and her husband Paolo Teranova, Agrippina Portagioia, Allesandro Portagioia and his wife Agrippina. She was the cherished sister-in-law of Mario Bellino and his late wife Agrippina, Lorenza Pappalardo and her husband Salvatore, and the late Vincent and Antonietta Bellino. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnephews, grandnieces and hometown friends. The family would also like to graciously thank her caregivers Nancy, Chan and Ardelle, and her caregiver and family friend Christopher Gartland.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited for Visiting Hours on Sunday, March 20 from 1:00 pm to 8 Pm at the family residence at 7 Marjorie Road, Wilmington. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 21at 10AM in St. Dorothy Church, 11 Harnden St. (off Main St.), Wilmington. Entombment will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maria’s memory may be made to Tempus Unlimited, Inc., 600 Technology Center Drive, Stoughton, MA 02072, for other families in need of home care for their loved ones. Please make notation on check “in memory of Maria Bellino”.
