Mary E.(Oldham) Carter, 86 died Friday in the South Shore Hospital after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late John P. Carter
Born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, daughter of the late Walter R. and Alice (Hartnett) Oldham. She was a graduate of Dorchester High School
Longtime resident of Whitman, a communicate of the Holy Ghost Church
Mary worked many years as a bookkeeper at Atherton’s Furniture in Brockton, Bostonian Shoe and DB Gurney in Whitman, as well as an election officer and secretary to the Council on Aging for the Town of Whitman.
She is survived by her children, Anne Burbine of Bourne, Francis Carter of Lebanon, NH. ,David Carter of Carver, John Carter of Whitman and Elizabeth Corliss of Buzzards Bay ,her brother Walter Oldham of South Boston her sister Alice Schultz of Fl. ;also 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews She was also the sister of the late, Paul Oldham.
Her Funeral will be held Tuesday May 2nd at 9:15 A.M., from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth ST.RT 58 at the Rotary Circle) Whitman. Followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 A.M. in the Holy Ghost Church School Street Whitman. Visiting hours Monday May 1st, 2-4 & 7-9 Burial will follow in the MA. V. A.
