Obituary

Edward W. Wojcik, 88, of Greenville, died Thursday, April 27th, 2006 at Haven Health Center. He was the husband of the late Anna (Wilk) Wojcik.

Born in Clinton, MA, he was a son of the late Ignacy and Anna (Godomska) Wojcik. He had lived in Central Falls with his late wife before moving to Greenville.

He worked for Owens Corning Fiberglass in Ashton in Human Resources for over 40 years. He was a volunteer Fireman on the Ashton Volunteer Fire Department. He served his country in World War II in the European Campaign in the 9th Army 1465th Ordinance Medium Automotive Maintenance Platoon. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon. He landed in France on D-Day and fought through Europe including the Battle of the Bulge in a Sherman tank. He was a 60 year Charter Member of the American Legion Fierlet Korzen Post 79 and a Charter Member of the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC. He was a parishioner and member of the Holy Name Society at St. Joseph’s Church in Central Falls. He served as a Commissioner and Vice Chairman of the Smithfield Housing Authority for several years and was on the Smithfield Senior Center Building Committee. He was an avid sportsman who loved fishing, hunting and trapping.

He leaves a son John E. Wojcik and his wife Elaine of Glocester, two daughters Christine M. Chabot and her husband Lee, of Glocester Diane A. Cassidy, of Smithfield and was the father of the late Robert Wojcik of Portsmouth, six grandchildren; Jeff Chabot of Long Beach, CA, Jennifer DiSumma of Glocester, Sean Cassidy of Smithfield, Shannon Cassidy of Washington, DC, Stefanie Wojcik of Malden, MA, and Kathryn Wojcik of Glocester; six great grandchildren; Corrine and Christopher Cassidy, Gianna DiSumma, Henry and Amelie Chabot and a sister Helen Kwiatkowski of Central Falls. He was the brother of the late Antoinettte Boskowski, Stanley, Joseph, Ted, John, Alfred, Walter and Frank Wojcik.

His funeral will be held Tuesday at 8:30am from the *ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial with military honors in Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation Monday 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to St. Philip School, 618 Putnam Avenue, Greenville, RI 02828 for the study of the history of World War II.
