Obituary

DARTMOUTH — Dorothy May (Lawton) Cartwright, age 92 years, of Dartmouth and formerly of Fairhaven, died at home on Tuesday, April 25, 2006, after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Earle E. Cartwright.
Born in Plainfield, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Wood Lawton and the late Jennie (Wayne) Lawton and lived most of her life in this area.
Mrs. Cartwright was a longtime active member of Grace Episcopal Church and the church Altar Guild, the Canterbury Club and church bazaars. Along with her late husband, she quilted many quilts of various themes for church bazaars. She was also a talented knitter, needlepointer and cook. She was an active member and past patron of New Bedford Chapter Order of Eastern Star which merged with the Gifford and Agawam Chapters.
She is survived by her sons Gary E. and his wife Simone of Valrico, Florida and Bruce I., and his wife Thalia of South Dartmouth, seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Her memorial service will take place at Grace Episcopal Church, New Bedford, on Saturday, May 13, 2006, at 2:30 P.M. followed by a reception in the church library.
