Obituary

Carmelo Zammitti, age 86, son of the late Salvatore Zammitti and Maria Sansaro Zammitti, was born in Siracusa, Sicily on July 11th, 1935. He passed away in the hands of his beloved bride of 58 years, Tina, on February 2nd, 2022. In Italy, Carmelo was always active as a young man. He enjoyed all kinds of sports, especially competing in judo. He enlisted in the Italian military, then became a military police officer. At the age of 28, he decided to leave everything behind in his native country of Sicily, Italy, to begin from scratch in another country, the USA, for the sake of the future of his then fiancé, Tina, and for the children that he wanted to have someday. While residing in the North End of Boston, he applied for a job at Mike's pastry. There he learned the skill of baking and found that he had a passion for it. He went on to successfully opening his own bakeries, Holland Bakery in Lynn, Tina's Bakery in Lynn and Tina's Bakery and Coffee shop in Medford. After a few years of being married, Carmelo and Tina moved to Medford, where they went on to raise their son and daughter, Sal and Maria. After retiring Carmelo and Tina went to live in Northborough for 14 years. Then they returned recently to Medford to be closer to their family. Carmelo was a gentle soul. He accepted everyone in his life. Never judging anyone. He was always patient, happy and smiling. He had an unconditional love for his family who he enjoyed very much. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids, and his close friends. He enjoyed trips and fishing on Cape Cod and loved listening to Italian music and opera. He read books on the history of the world. As a life-long hobby, he assembled an extensive stamp collection. He especially loved watching sports on TV. He loved international soccer games and car races., especially Formula One and the Ferrari Team. He also loved watching the Patriots and the Red Sox. Carmelo leaves his loving wife Concetta “Tina” Zammitti of Medford, his son Sal Zammitti of North Carolina and his daughter Maria Dulock and her husband Steven Dulock of Boston. Nonno leaves behind his grandchildren that he adored, Jessica Zammitti Jordan and her husband Miles Jordan. Nicholas Dulock , Melissa Zammitti, Joseph Dulock, and Mitchell Zammitti. Carmelo was the dear brother of his sister, Lina Schiavone and her late husband Sebastiano Schiavone of Tewksbury, his sister Vittoria Scudo and her husband Gaetano Scudo of Medford, his late brother Giuseppe Zammitti and his wife Margarita Zammitti of Medford. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their children. Relatives & friends are invited to attend his funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Tuesday February 8th at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at 10 AM. Services will conclude with entombment in St. Michael Cemetery in Boston. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday February 7th from 6-8 PM.
