Obituary

Jonathan Andrew Collins of Abington, MA died on Thursday January 20 of complications from a long-term illness, he was just 40 years old.

Jonathan is survived by his mother, Deborah M. Collins and her husband Gene Kelly, his father Thomas L. Collins, Jr of Southborough, MA and his wife Lisa J. Collins, his brother Thomas L. Collins, III of Worcester, his sister Kathryn A. Collins of Abington and his nieces Makayla L. Beane and Erin A. Beane of Bridgewater. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and second cousins.

Jonathan attended Archbishop Williams and Milton High Schools and graduated from the Universal Technical Institute. He worked for a time as a service writer at Mercedes Benz. He most recently worked as a plumber’s apprentice building large multi family communities. He enjoyed working with his hands.

Jon was curious about the way things worked and loved the Museum of Science from the time he was a young boy and throughout his life.

He was handsome and charming and could light up a room. He was a good storyteller and enjoyed the company of many friends. He enjoyed music and singing karaoke, especially his favorite, “Friends in Low Places”, a song he often said was written for him.

It can be said that Jon was something of a dreamer. He loved being outdoors. He enjoyed the solitude by a lake, found inspiration along the banks of a flowing river and peace by the seashore.

He enjoyed skiing, hiking, and camping. Jon often talked of his plan to purchase a small camper and set off to explore the vastness of America, camping and hiking from the east coast to the west coast, visiting old friends and making new ones along the way.

We know that Jonathan is in a better place and we pray that he finds the peace and serenity that eluded him for much of his life.

There will be a small service for immediate family only. A memorial service and celebration of life is being planned for the spring.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to the American Heart Association, the National Kidney Foundation or the Museum of Science.
