Barbara A. (Walsh) Besterfield, 85 of Bellingham, and former longtime resident of Franklin, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 20th, 2022 at Milford Regional Medical Center following an illness, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on September 3, 1936, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Walsh. She was the wife of the late Edward W. Besterfield, who died in 1975.

She grew up and spent her early years in Bellingham. After getting married, she moved to Franklin where she lived for many years. Recently, she moved back to Bellingham to live with her family.

She retired from the Wrentham State School, where she worked for many years. It was a job that she truly took pride in and enjoyed.

She was a loving mother and grandmother. She leaves behind her daughter Jean Besterfield-Carey and her husband Charlie of Bellingham. She also leaves behind her granddaughter Jessica Besterfield, also of Bellingham. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter Cheryl Besterfield. In addition to her family, she is survived by her many friends.

She enjoyed going to the Franklin and Bellingham Senior Centers to play bingo and pokeno and attend The Busy Bees to socialize with her friends. She also enjoyed playing Solitaire, doing puzzles and word searches. In the warmer weather, she enjoyed sitting outside listening to the birds and watching the wildlife that would come right up to her chair. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral MONDAY JAN. 31st, at 9AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Franklin at 10AM.

Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.

Calling hours are Friday, Jan 28th from 4-7pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Franklin or Bellingham Senior Center, where she loved to attend.
