Obituary


Thomas H. Hoyen, 92, of Worcester and Pompano Beach, FL, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 19th with his brother George by his side. He is survived by his two brothers, George Hoyen of Worcester and Dr. Harry Hoyen, II and his wife, Holly of Webster, NY; and two sisters, Dorothy Hoyen and Mary Szoke both of Worcester. He also leaves four nephews, Dr. Harry "Alex" Hoyen, III and his wife, Claudia, Andrew Hoyen and his wife, Rebecca, John Szoke and his wife, Joan and Edward Szoke and his wife, Marge; a niece Debra Gazos; his friend, Linda Roberts; and many grand-nephews and grand-nieces. He was predeceased by his siblings, Edward Hoyen, Ruth Feeley, Phyllis, Margaret and Helen Hoyen.

Thomas was born in Worcester, the son of Harry A. and Elizabeth (George) Hoyen: and had served in the Korean War with the United States Army. He was a partner with his brothers, in Hoyen Brothers Const., United Realty Corp. and the former New England Glass. He was a former member of All Saints Church, the YMCA and Worcester Fitness where he had worked out well into his 80's. Tom was and avid sports fan, enjoyed travel, sailing and the ocean, and trips to the casino. In his younger days, Tom was a member of the Sea Scouts and enjoyed time spent with this group on Cape Cod. Above all, Tom enjoyed spending time with his close knit family and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

His funeral is Tuesday, January 25th with a service at 11:00 a.m. in O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 24th from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
