Obituary

Elizabeth Joachim, 90, of Hingham, formerly of Mashpee and Framingham, MA and her native Hungary passed away peacefully on January 17, 2022 surrounded by her family after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Tibor Joachim and the daughter of the late Ferenc and Erzsebet Bekefi of Hungary.

Elizabeth and Tibor immigrated to the United States in 1956 to Worcester, Massachusetts after the Hungarian revolution against the Soviet Union’s invasion of Hungary after World War II. Elizabeth attended college and was trained as a chemist in Hungary. She worked at Worcester Foundation and most recently at DuPont in the biomedical field. During her career she was involved with the development of the birth control pill as well as advancements in breast cancer research.

Elizabeth was an avid gardener and would spend hours attending to her plants and flowers. Visitors would often compliment her garden and admire it’s beauty. After retiring to Cape Cod she enjoyed many summers at the beach. Nobska beach in Woods Hole became a favorite. She loved sharing these experiences with her family. Her favorite times were spent with family enjoying holiday meals and sharing Hungarian traditions, especially Hungarian pastries. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed.

Elizabeth is survived by her two daughters Judy Mascari and husband, Charlie of Medway, MA, Cathleen Joachim and husband, David DelPoio of Barrington, RI, five grandchildren Tibor, Taylor, Walter, Lucy and Ruby and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister Eva Morning of Mashpee, MA.

A memorial service will be planned for family sometime in Spring.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber Street in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralshomes.com).
