Anthony J. Manfra, Jr. of Medford, Formerly of Somerville and Charlestown, died Sunday evening at the Massachusetts General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, after a long illness. He was 82.
Born and raised in Boston’s North End, Anthony was the son of the late Anthony and the late Lucy (Vitali) Manfra. Anthony served in the Pacific with the Navy during World War II. He attended Bentley College after the war before joining the Boston Police Department. During his 33-year career, Mr. Manfra was a motorcycle officer at Station 14 in Brighton and then served as a detective for the last half of his career at station 4 in the South End.
He was the beloved husband of the late Marie D. (Cataldo) Manfra. He was a devoted father to Linda Kearns and her husband Walter of San Diego, Cal., Debra Fortin and her husband Edward of Westford, Cheryl Delafano and her husband Robert of Medford, Elaine Manfra and her husband Louis Klipper of Middleton. He was a loving papa to Walter, Tiffany, David, Andrew, Eric, Marie, Kristen and a loving great-grandfather to Mya Marie and Gianna Marie.
His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, Friday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may visit with the family Thursday 4 – 9. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery.
