Obituary

Nancy A. (Clark) Shanahan, 83, of Whitman, Massachusetts, passed from this life quietly and comfortably on January 16 at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital after a brief, unexpected illness.

Nancy was a truly vibrant soul among us, a devoted wife, mother, and friend whose wit and warmth easily touched everyone she met.

Nancy enjoyed bowling and golf, often playing in local leagues and tournaments, hitting the links every chance she could. She was a fervent fan of the Patriots and Red Sox (you did not call her during games if you knew what was good for you...) and loved watching college basketball.

Gifted with an angelic voice, she lent her soaring soprano to the choir at Holy Ghost Church in Whitman, where she was a long-time parishioner.

Nancy cherished time with her circle of friends, always looking forward to the next breakfast out or movie night with her ladies.

She is survived by her daughters Kathleen Mercurio, Karen Shanahan, and Mary Meyers, and her son, John Shanahan; grandchildren Caitlin, Ian, Christine, Jack, Sophia, Grace, Treyman, and Thalia Leigh; great-grandson Jackson, and her soon-to-arrive great-granddaughter Aubrey.

In taking her leave of us, she reunites joyfully with her husband of 35 years, Jack, her beloved companion of many years, Paul Johnson, and her first grandson, Ryan.

Nancy will always be remembered by friends and family as someone who lived simply, cared honestly, and loved beautifully.

Services and a memorial celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Pine Street Inn, 444 Harrison Ave, Boston, MA 02118 are encouraged.
