PHINN, Reverend Paul A. in Falmouth, formerly of West Roxbury passed away on January 14, 2022. Beloved son of the late Henry and Florence (Kelley) Phinn. Brother of the late Rev. Gilbert S. Phinn. Dear friend of Joan McCune and family. Fr. Phinn was the former Pastor of St. John Chrysostom Church in West Roxbury where he will Lie in State on Tuesday evening, January 18, 2022 from 5:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. John Chrysostom Church, 4750 Washington Street, West Roxbury on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at 10 o’clock. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. Father Phinn was born on January 16, 1931. He came from a family of two boys and attended the Randall G. Morris Grammar School in West Roxbury and Boston Latin School (Class of 1948). Both Paul and Gilbert became priests of the Archdiocese. He prepared for the priesthood initially at Maryknoll College in New Jersey and New York. He then completed his studies at St. John Seminary. He was ordained on February 2, 1957 at Holy Name Church by the Most Rev. Jeremiah F. Minihan. He offered his first Mass on February 10 at St. Theresa of Avila Church in West Roxbury. Fr. Phinn’s assignments included St. Albert the Great, Weymouth; 1957-1963, St. John the Evangelist, Winthrop; 1963-1978, St. Mary of the Hills, Milton; 1978-1985. On September 10, 1985, he was appointed pastor of St. John Chrysostom Parish in West Roxbury. He was granted senior priest/retirement status on December 15, 2005 and thereafter lived in Falmouth, Mass. He celebrated his golden jubilee in February, 2007 at St. John Chrysostom Church.
