Obituary

Louis Bethany Gelin of Dorchester, Ma., passed away peacefully on January 10, 2022. Born in Croix-de-Bouquet, Haiti on January 2, 1929. Louis was the son of the late Steven Gelin-Saint Fleur and Adelcame Jean. A devoute Catholic, Bethany started out as a pastor in his early adulthood and eventually became the director the church in his home town. Bethany married his soulmate, Marie Lucienne Sylluce in 1953. together they moved from Haiti to Bew York City in 1994 where they lived happily for 20 years before eventually residing in Boston.

In addition to Bethany's devotion to God, he enjoyed creating artwork for the church which mostly included drawing, as well as writing poetry and playing the clarinet. If he was not at the church, Bethany was at home on his farm tending to his horses, cattle, pigs, and other animals. He took much pride in teaching his children and grandchildren the way of God and how to harvest. In his later years, he enjoyed being surrounded by family to share stories and pray.

Bethany was predeceased by his daughters Yanique Gelin and Marie Andre Gelin. He leaves behind his beloved Marie Lucienne, son Ullysee Saint Fleur of Boston, son Eric Saint Fleur and wife Lina Saint Fleur of N.J., son Levience Gelin and wife Monique Joseph Gelin of Boston, son Rody Saint Fleur and wife Charite Saint Fleur of Miami, Fl., son Gael Gelin and wife Marie Nola Gelin of Boston, daughter Huguette Jean-Baptiste and husband Ford Jean- Baptist of Miami, Fl., daughter Bernadette Amazan of Boston, daughter Bertude Gelin of Boston, and daughter Nadine Gelin of Miami, Fl., Bethany also leaves his adored grandchildren Tracsein Gordon Destel, Jayllisa Yaynny Destel, Veronica Volimise Destel, Woodmarley Saint Fleur, Reggie Saint Fleur,Sheba Saint Fleur, Jason Saint Fleur, Allan Saint Fleur, Michael Gelin, Steve Gelin, Calve Gelin, Michaela Gelin, Rose Gelin, John Gelin, Jeffrey-Jean Baptist, Santiago Amazan, Nostraline Amazan, and Diana Amazan and great grandchildren Mylah Faith Bessard, Celeste Alaya Hunt, Ali Noel, Justin Riche, Norah Riche, Tina Amazan, and Saint James Amazan.

Viewing hours will be Sunday January 23,2022 from 3-5 PM in the Joseph Russo Funeral Home located at 814 American Legion Highway, Roslindale, Ma. On Monday January 24, 2022 a viewing will be from 9-10 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church / St. Angela located at 1548 Blue Hill Ave, Mattapn, Ma. Burial will be immediately following in St. Michael Cemetery located at 500 Canterbury Street, Roslindale, Ma.
