Obituary

Dorothy (Dottie) Jean Benson, 87, of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, went to be with her Lord on January 11, 2022 surrounded by family at her daughter’s home in Douglas, Massachusetts after a long battle with cancer. She was born on January 3, 1935 in Blackville, South Carolina, daughter of Myrtis and Sim Hutto, who predeceased her.

Her brothers, Sim (Jeter) Hutto, Nicholas Hutto, and Robert Hutto predeceased her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Eugene Benson of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, and her brother, James D. Hutto and his wife, Kaye of South Carolina, as well as her children: Janice M. Bardon and her husband, Phil, of Northbridge, Massachusetts; Brenda Gail Blanchard and her husband, Jeffrey, of Douglas, Massachusetts; Teresa Gallant of Uxbridge, Massachusetts and Anthony Sacco of Douglas, Massachusetts; her step-children: Timothy Benson of Bellingham, Massachusetts; John Benson and his wife, Danielle of Milford, Massachusetts; and Cheryl Evans and her husband Richard of Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Dottie was the proud grandmother of Christine Haire, Jason Cahill, David Bardon, Kerry Shumate, Kenneth Gallant, Ryan Gallant, Andrei Sacco, Adam Sacco, Ariana Sacco and a wonderful great-grandmother to Zachary Cahill, Devin, Leah and Ava Haire, Isabella Bardon, Brooke and Savannah Shumate and Cecelia and Emilia Gallant.

An avid gardener, Dottie was gifted with a green thumb and loved her garden and her flowers. She was a great cook and loved collecting and trying new recipes.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours Sunday Jan. 16th, in the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. from 2-4PM.

A prayer service will follow at 4PM.

Burial will take place at Hilda Methodist Cemetery, South Carolina.

Special thanks to Hope Health Hospice, Care Central VNA and Hospice and Oteri Funeral Home. Their compassionate and caring assisted her in this final journey.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.

Face coverings are required at the funeral home.
