Rose E. (Murphy) MacKenzie, 87, of Norton died on Sunday evening April 23, 2006 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare Center in Norton. She was the beloved wife of the late Stewart H. MacKenzie, Sr.
Born in Boston, MA on June 11, 1918 she was a dear daughter of the late John P. Murphy and the late Julia (Crowley) Murphy-Dockrey.
She was educated in Avon schools and was a graduate of Avon High School. During WWII she worked as a welder at the Bethleham Steel Shipyard in Quincy, MA. She went on to become an LPN. She had worked as an LPN for many years. Her last place of employment before retiring was at the former Cardinal Cushing Hospital in Brockton, MA
She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton. She enjoyed the pleasure she received being with her family. She had made her home in Norton for the past 35 years and was formerly of Brockton.
She is survived by her devoted children Rosemary Sweeney and Joan Kelley both of Norton, Stewart H. MacKenzie, Jr. of Huntington Beach, California, William MacKenzie of South Berwick, Maine, Michael MacKenzie of Cocoa Beach, Florida, Daniel MacKenzie of Rhode Island, Jean Cassens of Pasco, Washington and the late June MacKenzie and Bonnie MacKenzie. Her brothers and sisters Thomas Dockrey of East Sandwich, Arthur Dockrey of Sandwich, John Dockrey of South Chatham, Judy Avrill of Brewster, Mary Telles of Corvallis, Oregon and the late Leonard Dockrey and Dorothy Brophy. She is also survived by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Prayer services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday April 27th at 10:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial will follow in The Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton.
Visitation will be held prior to the prayer services on Thursday morning beginning at 9:00 A.M.
