Obituary

SCARBOROUGH- Donna Lee Kinney passed away at home on January 6th, 2022, just four days shy of her 73rd birthday to be with the Lord. She put up a courageous battle with cancer in order to spend time with family over the holidays and reflect on a life well lived.
Donna worked for years as an RN at Maine Medical Center and finished her career working as a dental surgical assistant at Periodontal Associates in Portland. She started her nursing education at Central Maine Vocational Technical College. As a brave, later-in life nontraditional student, she not only earned her college degree but helps make it possible for all three of her kids to do the same.
Donna enjoyed knitting and sewing which was a legacy of her late mother whose amazing quilts and wall hangings adorn many of the family homes. She loved books and enjoyed many different types of literature. She read many a book, dramatic voices included, to her children. She also loved science fiction shows and movies, especially ones based in outer space.
She and her husband enjoyed vacation trips to Prince Edward Island, a mission trip to Siberia, long walks on the beach, and just spending time together.
She had many humorous quips such as; “Should I comment or gesture?” “Give me a present or I will kill you.” “Say it like you mean it.” “Well isn’t that special.” “Donna will do what Donna wants to do.” “Living the dream.” All these sayings were part of larger hilarious stories that the family continues to enjoy telling.
The greatest legacy and thankfulness to our mom is her maintaining a strong Christian faith and passing that along to us kids where we too have passed that legacy onto our children. We grew up with the Truths of scripture and they have formed a foundation for our lives and we are truly blessed and thankful to her for that.
Donna was born to Ruth and Erle Leavitt on January 10th, 1949, in Bangor, Maine. She married her high-school sweetheart, Brian on August 11, 1967, and had three children, Thomas, Tonya and Travis (the Twins).
Donna is survived by her loving and devoted husband, three children, eight grandkids and four great-grandkids along with her siblings Victoria Perry, Mary Doucette and Peter Leavitt.
There is a funeral service being held at her church Christ Fellowship in South Portland on January 14th at 1:00. A private family graveside service will be held this spring.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Fri Jan. 14 at 1 PM at the Christ Fellowship Church, 7 Braeburn Ave., South Portland.
