Obituary

SOUTH DARTMOUTH - Donald B. White Sr., formerly of Lexington, MA died peacefully on January 2, 2022, at the age of 92 in his South Dartmouth home surrounded by members of his large family. He was the beloved husband of the late Ellen H. White (Holmes). Don was born on October 1, 1929 in Woburn, MA, the third of four sons of Malcolm Stuart White, Sr. and Edna M. White (Neville).

After Woburn High School, Don attended Tufts University and graduated in 1951. While in college, he was a member of Theta Delta Chi fraternity. He served with the Massachusetts National Guard and then worked for half a century in industrial sales throughout the New England region specializing in hydraulics and pneumatics. He was active in civic affairs including the Boy Scouts of America, Lexington Jaycees, Lions International and American Red Cross, among others. He was also involved and interested in national and local politics including serving as a Lexington Town Meeting member for many years and as a member of the Town Appropriations Committee. During summers and then, retirement in South Dartmouth, he was active in the Bay View Water and Improvement Association, volunteered with Grace Episcopal Church in New Bedford, as well as with organizations involving waterways and related activities. He enjoyed spending time on and near the proximate sea at his home in South Dartmouth. He also enthusiastically followed New England sports teams and was a strong supporter of his family's numerous athletic activities.

Don is survived by his children, Nina S. White Willever (Kent) of Portsmouth, Rl, Melissa P. White Ellis (Bradford) of South Dartmouth, MA, Maria S. Husted (Benjamin) of Plymouth, MA, Lisabeth M. White of North Dartmouth, MA, Donald B. White,Jr. (Jennifer) of South Dartmouth, MA, Charles P. White (Heather) of Barrington, Rl and Andrea W. White of South Dartmouth, MA, seven grandchildren, Jillian W. Tucker (Timothy Leigh), Matthew A. Tucker, William S. Husted (Alexandra), Patrick B. White, Colin P. White, Rebecca M. White, Parker C. White, one great-grandson, Tucker P. Leigh, brother-in-law, Michael D. Holmes, Sr., sisters-in-law, Carol Holmes, Florence E. White and Marcia E. White along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Red Cross and Accent Hospice Care of Fall River.
