Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Tuesday at 8am. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery. Leo P. Whitty, 77 years, died Friday evening at his home surrounded by his family after a period of failing health. Born, raised and educated in Dorchester, he was the son of the late Francis J. and Ruby C. (Adams) Whitty. He served in the US Navy during WWII and had been employed as a machinist and tool maker for over 30 years by General Motors in Detroit, MI retiring in 1979. He was a member of Local 735 UAW. Following his retirement he returned to Massachusetts and had been a resident of Brockton for the past 25 years. Mr. Whitty enjoyed time spent at the Cape, especially Hyannis, nature, golf and traveling.
He is survived by his wife Barbara A. (Bishop) Whitty, three sons Steven, Kevin and Michael Whitty all of Michigan, five stepchildren James Kane of Abington, Jeffrey Kane of Jenson Beach, FL, Barbara Kane of Revere, Lisa Kane of Taunton and Brenda Gulczynski of Middleboro, two grandchildren, 14 stepgrandchildren and was the brother of the late Francis Whitty and Eleanor (McCloskey) McAvoy.
