Obituary

On December 17, 2021, Albine "Al" Hocus, went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 78. Al will forever be remembered by the love of his life of almost 56 years, Alva Hopcus, his six children: John Hopcus, Cindy and Michael Boehm, Daniel Hopcus, Jesse and Francine Hopcus, Jennifer and Chip Albracht and Jacob Hopcus, as well as his 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Al joined the US ARMY and proudly served his country during the Vietnam war. After an honorable discharge, and despite his dyslexia, he received his bachelor’s degree in Sociology and worked as a probation officer for the LA County Juvenile Probation Dept, and retired after 35 years.

During his spare time, he owned and worked at three different laundromats in Ventura County. He received his pastoral degree through South Coast School of Training and was very involved with his church and was a part of the International Gideons. He loved people and would counsel, pray, and give advice to anyone in need. All benefited from the encouragement he spoke over their lives. He recorded an album (Indestructible) and published a book (The Rosary Boys), coached Road Runners Track and Field for many years, traveled with his wife in their later years, raised chickens, and spent time growing fruit trees and perfecting his fresh lime-aide.

He will be remembered for his love for Jesus, his heart for his family, his powerful testimony, his wildly entertaining stories and jokes, and love for Elvis. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who instilled the importance of family, hard work, good character, and forgiveness. He passed down the love of family, music, camping, gardening, and being Polish (something he was very proud of).

Al lived a legacy of faith that will be passed down from generation to generation.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 11:00 am at Redemption Church, Ojai Ca. All are welcomed - reception to follow. Al loved his Hawaiian shirts, so feel free to wear yours.
