Obituary

Robert "Emmett" Costello 78, of Plainville, and a former resident of Franklin, passed away, peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at his home Wednesday Dec. 22,2021 following an illness. He was the beloved husband of Pattie L. (Williams) Costello, with whom he shared 20 years of marriage.

Bobby “Emmett” is survived by his 3 children by his first wife Carol A. Costello (DeGrazio). Kimberly A. Mucciarone and her husband James, daughter Ashley M. Anderson, and son Emmett R. Costello. Also, son-in-law Gary Anderson.

His 8 grandchildren, which he was blessed with 6 in only 2 years: Nicole, Jenna, and Lilly Mucciarone; Catie, Andrew, and John-Paul Anderson; Anthony and Isabella Costello.

Bobby was born in Franklin, MA on January 11, 1941 to Raphael F. Costello and Helen F. Costello (Beaudette).

He leaves behind his siblings Linda Socci and Sally Cupka, both of Plainville. And the late Richard and Brian Costello.

Bobby was a graduate of Franklin High School’s class of 1961. He then enlisted in the Navy where he spent 6 years & received his education in Engineering/Machinery. After, he started his long journey at Polaroid, where he enjoyed 40 years and met life long friends, until his retirement.

Bobby “Emmett” will be fondly remembered for his spirited bold actions and dispositions. Emmett was an adventure seeker and had a love for fishing, hunting, skydiving, scuba diving, and skiing.

He had many newspaper articles written about him, such as “Hobbling Hero makes rescue”. This is based on a true story where Emmett was fishing and, in a full leg cast caused by faulty ski-diving, swam out and rescued a mother and 2 children when their boat overturned on Lake Pearl.

Another article Emmett was featured in was “Search of Sharks”. Emmett and friends used PVC pipe, chicken wire and duct tape to build a shark cage in hopes of gaining a better understanding of sharks.

He loved his children and grandchildren, and he taught each and every one of them to respect nature, weather, beaches, lakes, camping, and even just a walk in through the woods. That’s the kind of “Grandpa” he was.

On a Sunday afternoon, you could find him with his family watching the Patriots game and cooking up a storm, fishing off Jerry’s dock at Lake Pearl, or at Georgie’s Garage with the crew.

Also to mention Pattie’s daughter Cathy Lavorante and her husband Kyle and their children Alaina, Kyle and Kasey; also Great Grandson Jaxson.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Wednesday Dec. 29th, at 9AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Franklin at 10AM. To view the Mass stmarysfranklin.org
