TEWKSBURY: Maureen P. (Sullivan) Niven, age 82, a longtime resident of Tewksbury, passed away with her sons by her side, at D’Youville Senior Care in Lowell on Saturday, December 18, 2021.

She was the beloved wife of Neil Niven, Jr., who passed away February 13, 2007, and devoted mother of Stephen M. Niven, who passed away September 17, 2011.

Born in Boston on March 22, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Edwin Sullivan and the late Grace (Hoar) Sullivan.

Maureen was raised in the Dorchester are of Boston. She attended St. Ann’s Parochial School and went on to graduate from Notre Dame Academy in Roxbury.

While raising her for boys, Maureen attended the former Lowell State College (U.Mass-Lowell) where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed for 20 years by SAP Software Company in Waltham, where she worked as a consultant.

Maureen was a voracious reader. In addition, she enjoyed traveling with her late husband to Europe, and spending the summer months in Falmouth.

Her sons are forever grateful to the staff of the Belvidere Wing and Activities Department at D’Youville Senior Care for the assistance they provided to their mother.

Maureen is survived by three sons, Paul G. Niven, of Lowell, Timothy N. Niven, of Tewksbury and Peter D. Niven and his wife Joanne (Snow), of Westford: five grandchildren, Matthew, Jason, Shane, Ryan and Max Niven: several great grandchildren. She was the sister of Joseph Sullivan and his wife Teiko, of Walnut Creek, CA, Rosemary Sullivan, of Arlington and Janet Gannon and her husband Paul, of Milton. Maureen leaves many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Calling hours are Thursday, Dec. 23, from 9-11 a.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St. Tewksbury, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury (Per the Archdiocese, masks required). Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Tewksbury Community Pantry, 999 Whipple Rd., Tewksbury, MA 01876 or to MSPCA-Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844 are suggested.
