Obituary

SHREWSBURY___Bruno J. Naras, 87, of Shrewsbury passed away on Monday December 13, 2021 in Beaumont Skilled Nursing Center, Northborough.

He leaves his wife of 59 years, Genevieve M. (Lietuvninkas) Naras, two sons, Thomas B. Naras and Edmund J. Naras and his wife Kimberly of Shrewsbury; five grandchildren, Karina, Julia, Edmund, Joseph and Sophia and many nieces and nephews. He was born in Kybartai, Lithuania a son of the late Pius and Petronele (Antanaviciute) Narusevicius and was the last surviving of seven siblings. His parents settled in Ontario, Canada with Bruno and his three closest siblings after the family was displaced in World War II. He transplanted to the Worcester area to marry Genevieve. He has resided in Shrewsbury since 1973.

In the U.S. Bruno worked as an Architectural Designer initially for Herbert Engineering, then for Cutler Associates until he retired. Over the years he has belonged to Our Lady of Vilna Parish and the former St. Casimir's Parish of Worcester, and most recently St. Mary’s Church, Shrewsbury. Bruno was an extremely active lifetime member of the Lithuanian Scouts. He was a member of Maironis Park (The Lithuanian Charitable Society) and played a key role in designing the new building after the original facility was destroyed by a fire in 1973. He later served as a longtime member on its Board of Directors.

The Bruno everyone knew was kind, polite, diligent, industrious and rarely idle. When family and other commitments left time, after the garden was tended and the landscaping just so, he found time to apply his artistic talents to his wordworking. Over the years he crafted a significant number of various ornamental items inspired by the Lithuanian heritage of which he was so proud. The crosses, sculptures, inlaid plaques, etc. made by his hands are all treasured by those fortunate enough to have come to possess them.

The funeral will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021 with a Mass at 11:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Calling hours in the church are Monday, December 20, 2021 from 10:00 to 11:30 A.M. the time of the Mass. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
